KPIs To Behaviors

Challenge

Proving a statistical link between specific workplace behaviors and specific workplace KPIs has long been a focus for people consultants and data firms. It takes data previously confined to HR and makes it operationally relevant across the organization.

In this case study, Indigometrics’ software is applied to an organization’s 15,000 person strong sales and support operation. The performance of this operation is heavily metricized against specific KPIs at the individual and team level.

The request was to demonstrate our ability to statistically link specific behaviors to specific KPIs at scale.

Application
A consultant created a codification of “good” behaviors to benchmark against by working with the client based on its experience of behaviors that are likely to impact the target KPIs.

Indigometrics uploaded this behavior codification to its platform and collected peer review data against these behaviors using an iterative pulse data generation approach. Each participant was asked 5 questions about 5 different peers every week requiring ~3 minutes. Participation grew quickly to over 90% and remained strong throughout the entire period.

The client has planned a significant expansion of scope for the project in 2022 to include an additional 175,000 staff in order to obtain a more complete data set.

Results

  • We observe a general correlation of approx. 0.20 between behaviors and each KPI. As we receive a more complete KPI data set we expect this to move into 0.4 - 0.45.

  • Employee and leadership engagement was ~5x anything previously experienced by the client.

  • ~25% of participants clicked through to training opportunities monthly. The client typically experienced 10% annual click through rates.

  • ~70% of the client’s 12,000 strong workforce have participated to date - a strong outcome for a time poor, KPI focussed business. (Indigometrics typically sees a 90%+ range.)
